Dancing in the Milonga

How can you really enjoy dancing in Milonga and Practicas? The floor all too often seems to be full and it seems difficult to even get on it let alone dance - and when you do, there doesn't seem to be space to do anything. So how can we use everything we've learned in all those classes and workshops to have a great experience? After all Tango is a social dance and that's what it's all about!

From the crowded dance floors of Buenos Aires, Mona and Martin bring you the techniques and tips that work - a distillation of over 100 years of the tango experience and wisdom from the city of Tango.

Class 1 - The basic concepts of managing the dance floor

  • Salidas
In a Milonga the space that you can dance in changes all the time. Basic space management in that challenging environment.
  • How to enter into a crowded dance floor
  • How to use the space you have - for a while
  • How to take possession of a new space as it opens up
  • Common patterns
These are well tried patterns that can help us to follow flow of dancers on the dance floor
  • How to follow linear and circular patterns
  • How to make each one precisely clearly
  • How to mix and match
  • Advice and Tips

Class 2 - The Classics (top 10)

Revision of the most fundamental movements and techniques that allow us to enjoy the dance. Ocho cortado, rebotes, change of fronts, half turns, traspies, etc.

Class 3 - Differents Styles: Suiting your style to the music, the space and you partner

  • Tango Salon, Milonguero Style, Nuevo Tango
  • How the style changes the technique and how the technique builds the style.

Class 4 - Laboratory

  • Discussion of difficulties and doubts
  • Opening up of new ideas and concepts
  • Resolving open questions
