Argentina Imposes "Reciprocity Fee" on Canadian, US & Australian Passport holders |

Hi All, Just a note to let anyone going to Argentina know that from December 2009, holders of Canadian US and Australian passports must pay a "reciprocity fee". The fee is US$70 for Canadian passport holders, US$100 for Australian and US$131 for US passport holders. There are booths at the airport and the fee is paid in cash or credit card. One day, I called a dancer whom I didn’t see at the dance floor for a while, and she told me she still does not know how to dance after all the class she had taken, “I am so frustrated, I almost want to give up” she said in the phone. Unfortunately, she is not the only one who told me this. It’s sad to me, but it also reminds me of my hard time of learning Tango, especially the first year. When I started Tango on 2007, I was like most of Tango lovers, took group classes as much as I could. Of course, I didn’t get much dances at Practica or Milonga , just like other beginners, but things start to change after I took some Tango trips. So the second year, I started to try some advanced classes, (which I now understand it’s a general mistake, I should continue focus on real FOUNDAMANTALS instead).Anyway, I took more private classes with local teachers, visiting teachers and I am looking for the “miracle”. But turns out that I get more and more confused. I was frustrated just like other dancers, but I didn’t give up. Last year, I went to Buenos Aires twice, where Gustavo Lin introduced me Andres Laza Moreno. I took his classes almost everyday, we focused on FOUNDAMENTALS: my posture, my energy and connection. He was very clear, simple yet detailed. We practiced together till I’ll never get it wrong and he was always patient. I saw him teach an absolutely beginner from the moment she started to walk to him. An advanced dancer also told me “the more I took their classes, the less I like other teachers. I have no patience for too much talk when the others teach” . In Buenos Aires, I almost went to Milonga every night after Andres’s class, I could use everything I learn from him, quite often I received compliments from leaders at dance floor and that encouraged me to take more and more classes with Andres y Isabel. Since then, I really started to enjoy Tango. Now I understand a Master of Salon-style says: “The most difficult thing about dancing Tango are Tango FUNDAMENTALS. The difference between a very good dancer and another who is not very good is: Tango FUNDAMENTALS”.I know I still have a long way to go learning Tango, I want to be able to adapt to any style, and enjoy Tango all over the world! Is not that what we all want? Thanks to Tangotang inviting Andres y Isabel to Hong Kong, I truly appreciate it . Thanks to Desmond, the project manager who works so hard together with me , we do our best to set the price as low as we can , because we believe, a project with good quality doesn’t have to be expensive. Through this project, we wish more Tango lovers , especially those who have no chance to go to Buenos Aires, could learn real Tango from Andres y Isabel. Many thanks to Clarice who designed an almost perfect flayer for the project, and Nandia, who devoted so many hours for private class registration, as so far, 80% of total 83 private classes are booked. I wish that as many Tango lovers as possible would enjoy this workshop!

| There are always challenges for directors to manage a growing organization such as TangoTang especially most projects are run by volunteers with various professional, education and experience levels. For over 15 months since taking the post of the TangoTang directorship, the directors and project teams learn to work better as a team and suport each other's shortcomings to achieve a common goal. Yes, we do run a tight ship to ensure we provide best guidance base on our learned experiences through the past and coach the project teams to successful results. It is not productive to consume our effort on negative comments but we wish those to voice out openly and directly to give us constructive feedback with recommendations. It's comforting to read some positive comments about the directors from time to time especially when the diretors are being overlooked and under appreciated. We are truly thankful for those who appreciate our hard work and give us a pat on our shoulders! Let's embrace 2010 with positive energy! |

Very often I see ladies coming to Milongas not dancing, just standing or sitting and sadly looking. I think several ladies come to Milongas and don't dance once the whole evening. How do we expect people to like Tango if nobody dances with them? I believe this phenomenon is getting more and more serious and something should be done to change this. A certain system could be introduced, "change partners", for exemple. I strongly recommend this issue to be addressed.
