Tango, an underground movement
Written by Katrin Fiedler, on 14-06-2003 00:00
Greetings from Cologne!
On Wednesday, I went to a milonga called "Tango in the basement".
"Quite a nice place," a lady I had asked for the way had remarked.
As it turned out, this was an understatement: the basement was a church
basement, all bricks
and with arches so low that some of the taller milongueros had to navigate
carefully through the room. For candle light addicts - this is your place!
Red velvet and antique chandeliers added to the atmosphere of a clandestine
intimate festivity.

Coming back to Hong Kong
Written by Geoff Poole, on 10-02-2003 00:00
Coming back to dance in Hong Kong after so long away: what would it be like? I had imagined so many possibilities...
In the end I felt pleasantly surprised. Somehow the club seems to be growing,
and the dancing was in general quite good, with dancers listening to the
music which certainly hadn't been the case everywhere. It was nice to
be home.

Dancing to the music
Written by Geoff Poole, on 10-02-2003 00:00
“I don't
like sung tangos!”
I always get the feeling, dancing Tango in Hong Kong, that everybody
is desperate to be on the floor for every dance no matter what the music
is. "I don't like sung tangos!" or "I really don't care
for this type of music!" is an often heard refrain: mostly from those
on the dance floor.

News from Buenos Aires
Written by Geoff Poole, on 10-02-2003 00:00
“I have been in Buenos Aires for about a month and a half now, with about 5% of TangoTang it seems, and it's been incredible. My first impulse was to write ‘wonderful’ but that doesn't really do justice to the way it feels. Perhaps it would be better to say ‘an ecstatic nightmare’…”
